250-170 MetaServer Tasks – Retry Action

Sometimes an error can occur due to external reasons. For example, with DocuWare, export can fail when too many concurrent users are working on the DocuWare server.

With the Retry Action action, you can restart an action that triggers a specific error at any given time. You can set up the time in a preceding Trigger action.

For example, an Export to DocuWare action can fail because, at the moment of export, there were too many concurrent DocuWare users logged in to DocuWare.

In that case the document ends up in the Errors tab with the following error:

“Export to DocuWare: Error: NetworkCredential: 403 Forbidden (None of the registered licenses are available for client Administrator). Trace:1 403 Forbidden (None of the registered licenses are available for client Administrator)”

The only way around this error, is retrying the action a few hours later or at night when nobody is connected to DocuWare. It will then resume exporting the document to DocuWare successfully.

01 Retry Action – Adding the Action

To add the Retry Action action, select the action after which you want to insert the Retry Action action and press Add -> Errors -> Retry Action.

You can also open the setup window of an existing Retry Action rule by double-clicking the rue or by pressing the setup button on the right side of the Retry Action or in the ribbon, as shown below.

In our example case, we want to automatically retry all errors containing the string “None of the registered licenses are available for client Administrator”. Any other errors need to stay within the Errors tab.

First, add a description to your rule.

01 – Retry action if error contains on of the following: you can specify up to 5 different strings per Retry Action rule. If an error contains one of these strings, it will be automatically retried. Any other errors will stay within the Errors tab.

02 – Workflows: by default, the automatic retry will be applied to all active workflows. If you only want to apply it to specific workflows, press the “Select” button:

TIP: you can copy the current settings and paste them in another setup window of the same type. Do this by pressing the Settings button in the bottom left of the Setup window and by selecting Copy. Then open another setup window of the same type and select Paste.
